1% Pledge: Third Time’s a Charm!

By Kaedy Martin December 31, 2020

Back in 2018, ivision took the 1% Pledge, committing our time and resources to integrating philanthropy into our business culture. This is our third year taking this pledge and devoting 1% of our work hours and profits to bettering our community through a variety of different volunteering events and donation drives.

In January 2020, our 1% Pledge team met to determine what organizations we were going to dedicate our time and resources to for the year. Unfortunately, we had to completely reimagine our original game plan. Once the “new normal” set in, we adjusted the program to include our 1% Pledge and the Acts of Kindness Challenge. Essentially, each month, we would have a challenge and encourage employees to give back to their local communities in a safe way. Helping others is deeply integrated into our culture and DNA, whether it be with each other or people within our community where there is a need. Our vision was to encourage employees to complete “COVID safe” acts of kindness and share them to keep everyone connected while we were apart.

These acts of kindness came in all shapes and sizes, whether it was picking up school meals to deliver to neighbors’ children, donating pet food to local shelters or picking up litter on daily walks. Our team created an ongoing thread within our internal communications where everyone shared their acts of kindness and provided resources or ideas for coworkers to do the same. This established the perfect outlet to remind each other that, despite the uncertainty the world is facing, we can always count on one another to reach out a helping hand.

Luckily, as the world adjusted to the circumstances, we had the opportunity to volunteer with some traditional organizations as well. Our team members partnered with the Pajama Program during Hands on Atlanta Week and recorded themselves reading bedtime stories for children to watch on demand to establish a routine before going to sleep each night. We also partnered with Inspiredu and assembled hundreds of holiday bags for children at the Kindezi School, allowing us to see the immediate impact our work has on the community.

Despite every obstacle, ivision is proud of the strides we made in maintaining our devotion to the 1% Pledge. By the end of this year, we have successfully logged 2,465 hours among our employees. It’s remarkable what we’re able to achieve when we come together to make a difference. As we plan ahead for next year, we recognize that this is an ongoing effort and look forward to more opportunities to give back in 2021!
