What Makes a Company a Good Place to Work?

By Alex Fairchild May 27, 2021

The average person will spend over 80,000 hours at work over their lifetime. Doesn’t it make sense to spend that time somewhere you enjoy!? Many companies consider their culture to be a selling point, but are they really a good place to work? In this blog, I will cover what to look for in your current or next employer.

Communication

Does your employer listen to you? Do they give employee surveys? Does your manager have an open-door policy? Your company should give you ample opportunity to provide feedback. If you’re feeling overworked, underutilized or have any concerns, you should be able to discuss that with your boss! Your company should also offer transparent communication on company goals and performance, as well as clear expectations for your work duties, and equip you with the support and tools necessary to be successful.

ivision regularly distributes employee feedback surveys to understand where we can improve and was even named an AJC Top Workplace based on employee survey results. The HR team frequently checks in with employees to make sure they have everything they need to be successful. We have all-hands Monthly Company Update meetings where we hear from company leaders on company performance, charitable updates, new clients, new hires and monthly award winners. We also receive update emails from members of the executive team every week.

Collaboration

Does your employer encourage you to work with colleagues to complete tasks or solve problems? Your employer should foster a culture of teamwork. Celebrating wins is more fun when you can celebrate with teammates!

At ivision, collaboration is our culture! All teams have daily or weekly standups and frequent team events, including virtual lunches and happy hours.

Value

Does your employer truly value you? Your company should show you their appreciation of your hard work! Things like bonuses, recognition, employee appreciation events, continuing education/certifications, growth opportunities and a healthy work-life balance should be the norm.

At ivision, hard work is recognized and rewarded! We give employees the opportunity to recognize each other with weekly, monthly and yearly awards. We also offer discretionary bonuses for employees that perform exceptionally well. ivision puts a major focus on career mapping and employee growth, with extensive opportunities for advancement, training and continuing education. We also offer certification and tuition reimbursement!

Social Consciousness

Is your employer socially responsible? Do they promote volunteering and charitable work? Your company should foster a culture of inclusion and a sense of purpose in the work you do.

Starting in 2018, ivision pledged to give 1% of our time and profits to charitable causes. We have quarterly company-wide volunteer days and have developed an Acts of Kindness program to share how we impact our community every day. We also have a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion council that works to develop and implement strategies and best practices within the realms of racial, social, sexual and gender equity and inclusion. Every year, we partner with Cristo Rey Jesuit School to provide scholarships and internship opportunities for underprivileged students.

Life is too short to hate your job! Now is the time to join a team that values and rewards your hard work. Learn more about our commitment to a service-driven, inclusive culture and check out our current open positions to determine if ivision is the right next step in your career journey.
