Client: Atlanta Braves
Project: Disaster Recovery (DRaaS)
Solution: iVision Fusion Recovery, a flexible, fully managed disaster recovery-as-a-service (DRaaS)
“We not only wanted a cloud solution, but also quick access to knowledgeable engineers if a problem arose. iVision offered us both cloud capabilities and engineering expertise.”
— Greg Gatti, Vice President, Information Technology, Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves’ move to a new ballpark paved the way for a next-generation digital infrastructure that touched every aspect of the professional baseball team’s business — from the fan experience to sprinkler system controls to financial reporting. Protecting that infrastructure was essential, and so was keeping the Braves’ IT staff focused on strategic projects to enhance and grow the business.
“We’re a professional baseball team. We don’t have a large IT staff, nor do we need to invest in that. But disaster recovery is still critical. That’s why a cloud model is right for us,” explained Greg Gatti, the Braves’ Senior Director of Information Technology.
The Braves considered solutions from Amazon and Microsoft but ultimately chose iVision’s Fusion Recovery disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS) to safeguard the team’s infrastructure and data — building on a longstanding relationship between the team and iVision.
Provisioning Fusion Recovery was easy, Gatti noted. The simplicity came from iVision’s defined rollout process, and also from the fact that iVision engineers already understood the Braves’ business. Plus, the solution was “affordable and flexible” enough to meet the Braves’ specific needs.
One of those needs was assurance of hands-on help if disaster struck. “We chose Fusion Recovery because we not only wanted a cloud solution, but also quick access to knowledgeable engineers if a problem arose,” Gatti said. “iVision offered us both cloud capabilities and engineering expertise.”
By choosing iVision Fusion Recovery, the Braves gained a robust disaster recovery solution that fits the team’s specific needs. The team tapped into cloud capabilities and engineering expertise without expanding the internal IT team, which aligned with the Braves’ business model for technology operations. Recovery time objectives (RTOs) were reduced to hours, from what previously had been days. Recovery point objectives (RPOs) were accomplished within minutes. The Braves lowered risk, and Gatti gained peace of mind that the team’s critical infrastructure and data is protected 24/7/365.
“With Fusion Recovery, we can test our disaster recovery system whenever we want, and that gives business owners in finance and other departments a lot of confidence that we’ll be ready if the worst-case scenario happens.”
— Greg Gatti
Gatti noted that an unexpected benefit was his ability to share that peace of mind with others throughout the Braves organization. “With Fusion Recovery, we can test our disaster recovery system whenever we want,” he said, “and that gives business owners in finance and other departments a lot of confidence that we’ll be ready if the worst-case scenario happens.”
