Data center automation enables IT staff to concentrate on technology projects aligned with business goals.
COMPANY: A 125-year-old law firm with 110 attorneys specializing in a broad spectrum of business and litigation practice areas.
PROJECT: Data Center
The firm asked iVision to come up with a way to automate the failover between its two data center sites. The existing manual failover process required all hands on deck, absorbing hours of the IT staff’s limited time. The firm’s leaders saw the benefits of automation but wanted to ensure reliability; they asked iVision to create a way for the automated failover process to be tested at any time to make sure it was working as intended.
iVision engineers chose VMware’s Site Recovery Manager (SRM) to power the failover automation. The software integrated with existing storage-replication functionality. The iVision team created and implemented recovery plans that mapped out site-specific failover processes and embedded the ability to perform a failover test anytime to check the system.
The failover automation — enhanced with testing capabilities — returned precious hours to the firm’s IT staff. Time once spent on labor-intensive manual processes could be used on strategic technology initiatives with direct impact on the firm’s business.
